Like many of you, Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County is concerned about the occurrence of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) and continues to monitor the recommendations and protocols established by the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our local health department.

As we respond to the ever-changing environment, it is the safety of our clients and staff that remains our highest priority.

At this point, quarantines are not recommended by Indiana Health Department officials. Additionally, we remain committed to providing continued meal delivery services to our homebound clients, but we are taking precautions for the health and safety of our
recipients and volunteers.

Beginning Monday 3-16-2020 (and until further notice), we will minimize contact between our clients and volunteers. We will be leaving all meals in coolers just outside clients’ doors. Volunteers will leave the meal and call the client to let them know it has been delivered and make sure that they are doing okay. If we are unable to reach a client at the time of drop-off, our staff will follow up to ensure that we make contact with the client and/or their emergency contact.

Meals on Wheels Recipients Must:

• Leave a cooler out with a frozen water bottle, gel pack or ice every day. Meals will only be left in a cooler.
• ICE (or ice packs or frozen water bottles) must be in the cooler bag for a meal to be left.
• If you need a cooler bag – Call MOW at 317-776-7159.
• Keep phones handy. The volunteer will call to let you know when your meal has been delivered and to check on you.

We recommend individuals follow guidelines issued by the CDC, and if you are feeling unwell, please take steps to safeguard others and stay home. While the CDC does not recommend everyone wear face masks, the agency does believe the use of face masks is crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility). You can follow this link for additional information from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

We will update this statement (via email, social media and on our website) if any aspects of our services change in light of this growing health concern. If you have additional questions, please call our office at (317) 776-7159 for more information.

Thank you for your help in keeping everyone healthy.
