Over the past several months, my volunteer journey with Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County has not only fueled my passion for community service but also deepened my commitment to making a difference.

When approached by my good friend and past colleague, Janet Richardson, I initially hesitated, concerned that my busy schedule, split between working in Muncie and living in Noblesville, might hinder my ability to contribute effectively. However, Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County welcomed my involvement, offering flexibility that allowed me to participate remotely in meetings and complete other projects outside of my normal business hours.
As I transitioned onto this non-profit marketing committee, I noticed that this intersection of experiences have enriched my perspectives. Meaning, I started my career in the for-profit sector, transitioned to non-profit for over a decade and now back in the for-profit section for nearly another decade. Here is what I am noticing about myself: Being involved again in the non-profit sector at the committee-level has had a multifaceted impact on me enhancing my adaptability, diversifying my skill set, and influencing how I evaluate impact.
Utilizing Expertise: With my 13 years of experience in the non-profit sector, volunteering on this marketing committee allows me to leverage my expertise and skills for this cause.
Learning and Growing: Despite my experience, there’s always room for learning and growing. Volunteering on this marketing committee exposes me to new ideas, approaches, and challenges in the realm of marketing and communications. I have learned more about effective storytelling methods and how to engage with diverse audiences. Knowing that my contributions are helping to advance the mission of the non-profit and positively impact the lives of others is incredibly rewarding. It provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment beyond what a traditional job may offer.
Overall, my involvement in this marketing committee, supported by the flexibility provided by Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County, not only allows me to give back to the community and support a cause I’m passionate about but also provides numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth. It’s a chance to make a meaningful difference while continuing to develop my skills and expand my horizons.
